Today’s challenge is all about drinking more water, do you drink enough water? There is no real set amount to drink a day, some people say 8 glasses, I just try and drink it as I think of it and if I have avoided being thirsty or worse dehydrated with a head ache then I know I have drunk enough water for that day.
Here is some science to get you in the water drinking mood:
Water makes up 60% of your body weight, you really are just one walking water melon. Thirst is triggered by the loss of 1-2% of your body weight, or simply put water loss. This means you should not wait until you become thirsty instead you should aim to prevent thirst by drinking water throughout the whole day.
Drinking cold water will boost your metabolism, hot water will fill you up, you will be flushing out the toxins giving you healthier skin, helping your digestion and prevent constipation, beating fatigue and simply improve your entier overall health! How good is that, with zero sugar which means all this for zero calories.
Try not to think of water as something you only need when you exercise, you need water all day so you need to make it a habit to consume water regularly throughout the day. I find the best way to do this is to purchase a water bottle, and have it with you all day, sipping on it every time you think of it. Soon it will become a habit and you will even find yourself re-filling it and realising just how much water you should have been drinking all this time. So next time you go to grab an iced coffee, coke, diet coke, iced tea, sports drink, or any kind of over processed nasty chemical sugar explosion try and choose water instead. If you kept pouring coke on your favourite pot plant it would soon start looking a bit sad, same goes for your insides your body will adapt to the sugar and want it all the time, if you can start to wean yourself off of it you can say good bye to the nasty choices you have been making and really make an effort to consume more water.
I always like to remind everyone one that I have zero qualifications with regards to giving out health advice, I just have a huge interest in the heath of myself, my family and now my Yummy Mummies. I do my own research and like to pass on what I have learnt and what works for me.
