By now you would be familiar with the term ‘Super Food’ being thrown about in the media. It’s a label given to a few select foods that offer amazing bang for their buck and today I am introducing the latest one. The Lingonberry, never heard of it? Or does it sound strangely familiar? It’s the berry that makes the jam you have probably had on your meat balls at Ikea.
This little berry has popped in to our lives with the potential ability to:
1. Zap sugar, by stabilizing your blood sugars means it has the power to help fight diabetes.
2. It helps reduce bad cholesterol which can damage your arteries. This will help you avoid heart attacks and strokes.
3. It has known natural antibiotic capabilities.
4. Best of all it has been stated that new research is indicating that this berry may have some cancer fighting abilities.
Where do you get it? At this point I’m not sure of anywhere other than Ikea to get it. We had a trip to Ikea this week so I grabbed some to try. They sell it as Lingonberry Jam so I’ve tried it and it’s yum. Bit of a mix of a blueberry and maybe a cranberry. Another way to have it would be to pop a few table spoons in your next smoothie. This berry is very healthy, with its high concentration of antioxidant’s, it it may be one of the highest concentrated. So give it a go and see what you think.
