Ever wondered what a Stay At Home Mum does all day? The question should be, what doesn’t she do?
I was away from home since Friday morning to Sunday afternoon leaving my capable husband at home with the kids. It’s been Daddy Day Care for 3 days and 2 nights. Happy to report kids are still alive and the house is still standing!
But the thing I mostly wanted to share was the comment from my Husband….. “I was a Police Officer for 5 years and I’ve been on 3 tours of Active Service, but none of that was as hard as looking after 3 kids for 3 days alone!”
These words I have longed to hear for the last three years, these words made me smile, these words made me happy that finally he now just maybe, just maybe he really appreciates what it’s like to stay at home with three kids alone for more than just a day. My husband is in the Air Force and is often deployed overseas or just interstate for work. So it’s more often than not, just me at home with the kids, on my own, doing it all. Since Friday morning until Sunday afternoon he had the pleasure of spending that time alone living my everyday life.
He often wonders why when he comes home from being away, why I’d possibly want to go out now that he’s home. Now he totally gets it, he in fact couldn’t get out of the door fast enough to get the food shopping done when I did finally get home. He needed to get out of the house to get some air. He didn’t say that of course but I could recognise that look of oh my god take me to the Asylum. It can get a bit crazy with a 2 year old and the bigger ones, it is intense, and quite energy draining at times. The worst bit is we just put Mr 2 into a big boy bed from the cot so he didn’t get much sleep after he learnt to get out of bed and open the door to walk around the house at all hours of the night.
If you think your are ‘just’ a Stay At Home Mum you are so much more, that title is sh*t you are god dam Wonder Woman. And yes if you work and have kids you too get a shot at the title also. What we do each day as Mum’s is often taken for granted but take you out of the picture, no one can replace you, no one, some may come close but you what you do everyday in your home, for your family without pay, without recognition is massive. Be proud of what you do and don’t be scared to take time off as you will be surprised at suddenly how appreciated you become.
