Tuna Mornay In The Slow Cooker

“What to cook for tea?”, if I had a dollar for every time I’ve asked myself that! Today when I asked myself I realised it was  going to be a slap together job as I’m going to be out most of the day until late. In this house that doesn’t mean take-a-way, it’s a good thing it’s all too hard to put 3 kids in the car to get take-a-way most of the time it’s just easier to make it myself. There’s and even easier way to do it, get my BFF to cook dinner for me, my slow cooker!

So I hit the pantry up, grab out old slowly, but what to cook, have a look around the pantry and it dawns on me, pantry style Tuna Mornay. It’s amazing what you can make with all the stuff in your pantry, stuff that you might not think of can be combined to make a proper meal. Check out what I grabbed out. Can of Tuna, jar of white sauce, tin of soup, pasta and peas and corn. Plop it in the slow cooker add some water for the pasta to soak up and you are done. Set it to slow, come back in a few hours and tea is ready to go.

Kids will love this kind of food and it just so dam easy to plop together and forget about. Great omega 3 for the kids in the Tuna, energy in the pasta (I have of course used wholemeal) and vegies shoved in there too. A balanced meal for any child or adult plucked out of the pantry and plopped together wtih minimal effort. Love it!

I’m definitely going to add this to my meal plan soon, love it when you just ‘plop’ food into the slow cooker.

Kat, keeping it simple, no more fluffing around with butter, four and milk at the stove, plopping is SO much easier!!! R

Love my slow cooker, use it all the time. If I find a recipe that is for the oven like a casserole, I always adjust it for the slow cooker, so much easier!

Julie, me too so easy and saves so much time! Sounds old fashioned but it’s like having a personal chef!! R

I found a very nice recipe for the slow cooker, it requires more effort than just plopping, but it uses up some of the diced tomato cans that I never seem to know what to do with.

They are called “pigs in blankets,” basically just any type of mince (mixed with cooked rice) wrapped in half-cooked cabbage leave. You can use a steamer to half-cook the leaves.
You wrap up the mince balls in the cabbage leaves, and add the cans of tomato. It’s so easy to make and my kids are always asking for more.
