Well school holidays are wrapping up, I just have to live through a Saturday and Sunday, and I have made it out alive! I must admit it has been great not rushing around in the morning and I have not missed school/kindy drop off’s/pick up’s but the honeymoon is about to be over come Monday morning.
Today I thought I’d share my tips on getting ready for back to school to avoid tears, dramas and arguments for a smooth transition next week. It’s never too early to get ready so I had some spare time this afternoon, no I didn’t there is no such thing, I made some time to get organised now so I don’t have to worry about it on the weekend.
Make vegemite sandwiches enough for the week and freeze them. This way you can’t run out of bread during the week and be talked in to a lunch order. You can even go one step further and get recess organised. The best way is to buy boxes of biscuits or pop corn and break them down in to zip lock bags. Try to avoid the LCMs, sweet muesli bars and all the crap they sell you just stick to basics and keep it as savoury as you can for the sake of their little tiny teeth. I had some left over cupcakes that will go in to the freezer also for a sometimes recess snack.
We have a snack box in our pantry, it’s a tub where I keep the kids snacks and recess. So each morning I grab a frozen sandwich out of the freezer and a snack for recess from the snack box, an apple or carrot and school lunch is made in 30 seconds. The snack box is also where they head to after school for a snack so I don’t have to get up off the couch and organise anything, just kidding, sometimes I help them!
Since it’s the start of a new term on Monday here are some other ideas I have shared previously that you may find useful. Especially if your little nugget is just starting school you can make this your routine and save many arguments and tears.
Check out my post on School Survival Secrets and Do More The Night Before for more tips on how to get more organised for school as it makes life easier for everyone.

I’ve never been keen on frozen bread, so haven’t ever made my kids eat it either. But for my girl who only eats vegemite sandwiches, I might try this for a week and see if I get any complaints. It wouldn’t work for my girl who “needs salad in her sandwich” but one less to do in the morning would still be worth it.
