In our house we have floating floor boards, and I used to get so sick of cleaning the floor that I would leave it until there were little dust bunnies floating around the floor everywhere. I can’t be so lazy now as I have a little crawler who spends a lot of time on the floor. My tip for keeping the floor cleaner for longer, is (no not more cleaning don’t panic), what we call ‘the shoe box’. Everyone in the family takes their shoes off at the door and puts them straight in the shoe box. This is great for when heading out the house in a hurry, there is no more “Mum I can only find one shoe”, or worse “where are my school shoes Mum?”.
There are other benefits of no shoes in the house, just stop and think for a moment of all the things you tread on when you are out and about then when you step in your home you are transferring it on to your floor. This can be pollen which can aggravate hay fever, dog faeces which can make your little people sick, petrols and oils that have spilt on the ground at the petrol station, dust and mould from the shopping centre which can aggravate kids asthma, or worse fertilizer and weedkiller from the park, you name it yuck! So the shoe box is how we roll, and it works so well the kids always race to see who can get their shoes in first, which then turns into a fight but that’s a whole different post! Here’s our shoe box in the hallway by the front door tucked out of the way.

Love your blog! What a fantastic idea and i’m a new mum to be so even more helpful for my future. I know Kim and found you from her fb blast. You prob already know how you want your blog set up but i noticed you have wordpress like me and if you check out the ‘widgets” in the back end you can add a few things to the front so people can subscribe to your blog, get your current feeds and such.
Totally up to you how you run it though 🙂

Hi Nicole, thanks for the feedback, and congrats on the soon to be bub. I am very new at this and wasn’t sure if people would even want to subscribe but since there has been lots of interest I will look into it. Might do a ‘new mum to be’ post just for you! R
