As part of my partnership with Fitness First they challenged me to try something new and to step outside of my comfort zone. So I had to come up with something I hadn’t tried before that was considered a workout yet would push me outside my comfort zone. Rock Climbing it was. So I found a local indoor rock climbing facility and booked the family in for what turned out to be an awesome experience.
The kids were given a kid safety brief and us adults were given our safety brief and shown how to set up as a belay for the climber. We picked a wall and we were on our own to climb, dangle and climb more. I figured I’d better go first since I had dragged everyone along so I hooked up with my husband holding my life in his hands, oh good god.
It was awesome I actually had a ball, it’s like nothing else I have ever done and it’s not often you are in a position where you are dangling from a rope 30 meters above the ground. You want to challenge yourself to get to the top, but what comes with that is being ridiculously high and looking down at your ant children thinking, ‘oh god hope he doesn’t drop me’.
Little Miss 6 was amazing, she was fearless and climbed like a champion. She blew me away with her persistence and ability to climb really quite high. This is her below, now she has NEVER done anything like this ever so just goes to show anyone any age can have a go at this.
Mr 9 wasn’t that keen to be honest he isn’t normally one for taking risks but he had a go but was beaten by us girls.
So if you are looking for something different to do on the weekends than regular shopping or movies with the kids checkout rock climbing. I am so glad I was given this challenge by Fitness First as I probably wouldn’t have sought out rock climbing normally but it was awesome and we think we will make a regular thing of it. This is what I mean when I say do something active today, it doesn’t always have to be in a gym or on the pavement let me tell you this was a good workout and I might even wake up sore tomorrow.
