The last few days have seen a few changes around our humble home, so much so that I haven’t even had time to blog don’t panic I am back! I have this thing where I get really bored with where I live after say two years so I start looking for a new place, selling up and moving! I think it has something to do with moving around with the Army, there is something really exciting to me about moving in to a new place. It has kind of become a running joke in our family how many times we have bought and sold but I love it and started to feel the urge to look for a new place creeping in. I was talking to a friend of mine who said she has the exact same thing also as a result of moving around with the Army but she had found a way to beat the “I’m bored let’s move” feeling, it never occurred to me, to rearrange! That simple, so for the last few days I have been rearranging and swapping old furniture with new stuff to freshen up the house a bit.
Where did I end up for inspiration, Ikea of course! They are having a sale at the moment so I even managed to grab a few bargains. We had a big old TV that I struggled to get rid of as it was still a perfectly working appliance it just wasn’t skinny, sexy, shiny and digital, but I gave in a we also bought a new TV. So out came the allen keys and the building began. It was a long night and there were times where it looked like a war zone! The kids had a ball drawing all over the cardboard boxes this kept them out of the way so the makeover could be carried out without tears.
I didn’t want a low lying TV cabinet as Mr Chilled 1 would have way too much fun climbing all over that so I opted for something outside the box. Under the TV is a chest of drawers, yes intended for a bedroom but I love the idea of all the drawers for storage.
The top drawers are of course full of Playstation games and DVDs however the bottom ones are for the kids so they can pack up their crap quickly when I tell them to. I changed my heavy wooden TV unit for fresh white pieces which instantly brightened up the whole room. Swapped the TV to the other side of the room. Moved a few things around the rest of the house, in fact almost everything has been moved to a new spot, and what I can’t find a place for today is being donated to the Salvation Army.
As this is actually the kids loungeroom the TV remote and the Playstation controllers always go missing, now they are tucked away in these white pots where they now live. This is why I have opted for a chest of drawers, look at all the storage for the kids DVD’s, you can have too many DVD’s by the way.
The other thing is as the old TV was at toddler height which was an open invitation to put toast in the DVD player and pull the Playstation on to the ground. Now everything is up nice and high out of the reach of chubby little fingers, just try and reach the TV now punk.
House feels like new, urge to move averted! I love to rearrange, my poor family come home and can’t find things as I have gone on a rearranging spree, but it’s me who spends most of my time inside these four walls so I want it to look the way I want it to!

Looks great! That is the exact chest of drawers we want from Ikea. We were going to use in our hallway/living room area just like a hutch sort of thing. But no Ikea up here 🙁

Looks great! It’s amazing how much space is freed up when you get rid of the old bulky TV!

Oh drats! … now you’ve completely ruined my ideal living room I’ve planned in my head for our upcoming reno. 🙂 The chest of drawers would be perfect for our TV stuff just the same as you. I agree with you using this furniture for anywhere, no hard and fast rule to have it in the bedrooms… now you’ve twisted my arm and I love it!
Thank you! 🙂
By the way, are there any runners attached to the drawers?
renee01 says
Yep drawers are on runners, they are great and even after a week the lounge room remains tidy as everything is in the drawers when it’s not being used! It’s great! R

Wow, your makeover looks fabulous. Where did you get the floor mat from? I would love a mat like that in our living area.
