Lego Starwars 8th Birthday Party

Yesterday was my son’s birthday party, he invited 8 of his best buddies from school. I always let him invite the number of kids, as per the number that he is turning, that keeps it manageable. I’ve been to parties where the whole class is invited, no thanks.  His party theme of choice was Lego Starwars, huh? It’s a Playstation 3 game that him and his sister play almost everyday! So off I went in search of ideas for his party as I do like to go a little nuts when throwing birthday parties. However this year I struggled, I think maybe I peeked to soon when he was younger and the novelty (stress) has worn off, or it could be because my husband is away and I have now added eight 8 year old’s to my already crazy house.

I had all these great ideas for a cake, but with time not on my side I decided to play it safe. Being 8, two round cakes that were going to be an intricately detailed Darth Vader head quickly became an easy figure 8 with Lego Starwars guys running around it saving their galaxy! It was a bit of a slap together job, not much love went in to it, but he still loved it.

For the party food I love to make miniature things for the kids, it’s easy for them to eat and they get to try a few different things rather than committing to one big hotdog. So I buy those little dinner rolls and make mini ham and cheese rolls and turn some in to mini hot dogs, so cute!

Party bags are everyone’s favourite part, so I try to make these a bit different. Often the kids bring home party bags with little plastic toys that break so I stick to food only. A tip is a mini packet of chips will take up most of the room and save money trying to fill them up! Lego is all the go at the moment so the pens kept in with the theme.

The only thing he requested was a treasure hunt, so I filled a Weetbix box with chocolate coins and lolly necklaces and wrapped it in birthday wrapping paper. I sat down and wrote up a heap of clues that would take them from one area of the house to outside and back again. This was good as it kept them busy for ages, then they found the treasure and were rewarded with sugar!

Over all the party was a stress, I mean success! Kids loved it, I love creating fun childhood memories for them and a once a year awesome birthday party is a great way to do just that.
