Little Miss 4 has always been in some way or another obsessed with fairies so for her 2nd birthday she had a Fairy party and this is how it went down. With party planning I go all out, I love it. I ask my birthday person what they’d like and that becomes the theme. I start buying bits & pieces as I see them a few months out to start a collection to avoid running around at the last minute. With a fairy party think pink, tiaras, wands, butterflies, wings anything girly really. I made wands out of jam biscuits, I also made wands out of marshmallows on sticks dipped in icing. Don’t get too fussed about food just a few novelty things to match your theme and the rest can simply be regular party food, which the adults will eat as the kids wont sit still long enough, too much happening.
For the cake I made a giant cupcake, at the time she was obsessed with cupcakes so it was perfect. She couldn’t believe her little fairy eyes when she saw her cake, below me showing her. I make the cake the day before so nothing can go wrong on the day. I decorate it on the morning of the party. I like to go a bit crazy and order helium balloons just to give it a real lux party feel. Then the birthday person gets to play with them for the next few days.
I got my sister to dress up as a fairy and do face paint, as she was only two there were no friends invited as we have a massive family with lots of cousins so there were a few butterfly faces walking around. The kids loved it, the birthday girl loved it. I decorated outside with pink lanterns in the garden to encourage the kids to go outside and play and leave us adults to eat and chat in peace, worked. Fairy parties are great, there is heaps of stuff you can find to decorate, all of which I get from the cheap shops so it doesn’t cost much at all. Think like a kid and you can create an awesome day at home without spending a heap on a venue and still have a great party.
