How To Make The Most Of A Play Cafe

Sometimes I don’t want to hear Giggle and Hoot’s ugly voices anymore, I don’t want to hit the gym, I don’t want to get stuck cleaning but I also don’t want to answer 300 questions and or entertain two little people so I cheat. I head to the local Play Cafe where I can sit one a couch, have a coffee while my children go rouge and I don’t have to do too much at all.

The kids love it when we go to these places, it’s a great time for them and a good old break for me. Our local one has these amazingly comfy black leather couch’s so that’s where I plonked my butt in the toddler enclosure while the kids built a zoo for the ride on giraffes and horses. If you have never done the play cafe thing you probably should. If it’s crappy out side and the kids are driving you nuts it’s a great way for them to burn off some stupidness while you chill out. It’s not a complete break for you, let me burst that bubble. One will still need to go to the toilet as soon as you have sat down and had your coffee brought to you, one will still need their nappy changed, and no doubt one will hit someone else’s kid over a sausage shaped pillow, or maybe that’s just my kids!!

How to get your money’s worth from one of these place:

  • Get there when it opens, most open 9am. This way you get to pick where you sit and the kids will have the place to them selves until everyone else stumbles in.
  • Stay as long as you can. There is no time limit, you usually pay for entry, the longer you stay the more you get for your money.
  • Bring bottles of water. The kids will play hard, even if it’s cold outside they will work up a sweat and a thirst. The food and drink can cost Airport prices.
  • Try to relax. Everyone’s kid has pushed or hit another kid at some stage, it’s how they learn. Don’t be in their face telling them off every 5 seconds, but don’t be one of the many Mum’s who doesn’t look up from her IPhone while her kid is terrorising the ball pit!

These places are win win, kids love it, it wears them out, it burns off excess energy and stops you from spending another day cleaning or thinking about cleaning!

Play centres are a god send! There was one in Wollongong that my friends and I would frequent with out little ones, and it was so good to know they were safe while we were able to have a cuppa and a chat. I think it’s an essential for all mums to have some time out!

We were here yesterday with our playgroup. Very comfy to sit on the couches watching my 1yr old have a ball. My 4yr old thinks its the best. Love your blog by the way.

KezzD, That’s the exact ages of my little nuggets, it’s a good way for them to play together instead of beating each other up! Thanks for loving my blog!! 🙂 R

Nothing wrong with that! Particularly when they serve good coffee 🙂
