Food of course! Whenever we go from A – B I pack a snack for Mr One so when he’s had enough of sitting still I pass him over his snack and he is happy as! All you need are some zip lock bags, the smaller the better for little hands. You can of course use Tupperware containers but I find these fall from little laps too easily and end up on the floor of the car. The zip lock bag is perfect for little fingers to hold on to and eat out of, great for pincer grip development too.
A hot tip is pack dry and wet foods separate or the dry food will have soaked up the moisture and turn soggy before he even gets his hands on it. This can even serve as a meal, if I am in a complete hurry heading out the door of a morning, Mr One is given a feed bag (yes OK a bit like a horse) and he sits there and happily eats his breaky on the road. Also works just as a snack during the day traveling from errand to errand.
It can also be a useful idea for pre-schoolers, easier and better for them than a packet of chips or lollies. Even dry cereal is a hit in this house. Sometimes it’s just the simplest things that can make a huge difference in your day. If I head out and I haven’t packed a snack for Mr One then for the entire trip I hear “Numm numm?” coming from the back seat. If I do take five minutes to chop up some cheese or an apple he is happy to sit there and eat and I can concentrate on my singing, I mean driving.
