Did you know that certain foods when eaten together can work together to make absorption of certain vitamin’s and minerals more efficient. My favourite one that is worth remembering is Vitamin C helps with Iron absorption. Eating foods with high levels of Iron doesn’t guarantee you will absorb it adequately.
The Science of it…. Vitamin C helps with the transporting and the absorption of the Iron after consumption. As Vitamin C is an ascorbic acid, when this acid binds to the iron it makes it more stable with a better shot at being absorbed through the mucus membranes of your intestine. Ewww too far?? Sorry just wanted you to understand that even after you’ve tasted your food and swallowed it, it still has a job to do. I want you to think of food as medicine not just pleasure.
So the easy to way max out on this little tip is to simply have an OJ next time you are out for dinner dining on expensive steak. Or in my world the kids and I have an OJ when we have steak. Normally I’m anti fruit juice as they are a massive teeth rooting sugar bomb but when the goodness out ways the bad that’s the time to use it.
