How To Avoid The 3pm Crash And Crave

If you are human mid afternoon you will suddenly find yourself a bit peckish right? So do you find yourself rummaging through the kids bags of recess in the pantry, you end up with a cup of tea and a packet of Tiny Teddy’s don’t you? There is about as much nutrition in that snack as if you actually ate one of the kids stuffed teddy’s!! So today I am sharing what I have every afternoon to avoid eating crap and not making it through the school pick up without eating my young.10380316_766317016732031_7421416116802679620_n

I have mentioned before how important it is to try and automate your eating, as in eat at the same times each day and eat the same foods. This way you always know what is next and you will never end up standing in front of the pantry pigging out on a bag of chips and a packet of biscuits because you will know it’s afternoon smoothie time! A smoothie is a great afternoon snack, it’s almost a meal if you get it right.

3PM Super Mum Smoothie:

1 Cup of skim milk, (I am loving Almond Milk at the moment)

1 Scoop of vanilla protein powder

Frozen blue berries

1 Bananna

2 Table Spoons Raw Cocoa Powder

Shove it all in the blender and make some noise! Be careful not to turn it in to a ‘smooth criminal’ by adding ice cream, cream, chocolate ice cream topping etc!! The idea is it’s a healthy afternoon meal full of protein and 2 serves of fruit! This will keep you full until dinner time and stop you snacking on crap in the afternoon. Next time you are at the shops grab the ingredients and make it a new habit.

    Hi Renee,

I went to Woolies today and bought the protein powder and chia seeds for breakie porridge. Tomorrow I’ll hit the markets to get fruit and vegies. (I already have the freezer stocked with berries). Thanks for being such an inspiration! I’m going to follow your eating plan, plus going to the gym more regularly, and hopefully I’ll see results! xxxx

How much yoghurt and blueberries do you use? Also is 1 formula scoop, the same as 1 tablespoon? Thanks

Hey Julie, see in the pic sometimes I buy these little yoghurt drinks from the dairy section they are the prefect size. If not it’s just a few plops of yoghurt from the 1kg container. If you really want to get rid of the sugar use natural yoghurt. I just plop in how many blue berries I feel like really, you can’t have too many of those little suckers they are amazingly great for you!!! Enjoy! R

Thank you! I am guilty of eating too many biscuits when I feel famished at this time of day. Time to replenish my stock of protein powder.

Karen, it’s the way to go sometimes us women just don’t get enough protein as we are so drawn to carbs. Enjoy! R

I am a big fan of fruit smoothies but I have never used or even brought protein powder.
Please enlighten me about it’s benefits.
