Little Miss 4 will be turning the big 5 and heading to school in January 2013. All she cares about is drawing, she isn’t fussed on counting, ABCs, or writing. I haven’t done as much with her as I had done with Mr 8 at that age as he was an only child at that stage where as Little Miss 4 has to fight for attention with 2 brothers also competing. So I came up with the idea of playing UNO each night before bed and she has improved her number recognition and is now pointing out numbers of houses, numbers on cafe tables all sorts and it’s all since UNO.
UNO is a great card game based on four colours, numbers and a few other twists. It’s really easy to teach the kids and they even beat me, even Little Miss 4 has won a few games so it’s also good for their confidence. The game only cost a few dollars but the improvement and interest in numbers it has generated in my daughter is priceless. If you want to spark some learning in your pre-schooler that feels like fun then grab a pack of UNO and start playing it with the kids. It’s all fun and games until they start beating you, that’s an ego hit I didn’t see coming.
