We live over an hour from the city, you wouldn’t quite call it the country but it’s on the way to the country. There are times when you do have to hit the road for the drive in to the Airport or a trip to Ikea but other than that we love living far away from the hustle and the bustle. The beauty of living where we do is we have quite a large block with no neighbours in front of us, or behind us within stones throwing distance. Down side occasional lizard, noisy cockatoos in the gym trees and up keep of the yard.
The kids love to hang around inside the house watching TV but with a little nudge they will reluctantly head out the back yard to play. We have tried to set up the back yard with lots of fun stuff for them to do and play with. Sand pit, cubby house, rabbit hutch, pirate fort, tyre swing hanging from a gym tree you name it. This morning I sent the kids outside with little boats they each made from the recycling bin. As you can see from Little Miss 4’s face her boat just broke and she wasn’t happy! So I left them to create learn and grow, (and so I could blog lets be honest!).
It’s been a good 5 hours and they are still out there, see how much the sun has moved. They have the hose running for some reason they love to play with water, they tell me they are playing beaches. I used to stop them because they would ‘get all dirty’ but then I realised how much fun they would have and their clothes could be cleaned! They are learning, creating, using their imagination which they seem to do less and less these days as its already been done by someone else and put on a DVD, Playstation game or DS.
I am making more of an effort to encourage the kids to be free range kids, go outside, get dirty, have fun, mummy just has to deal with sand all over the house and another load of washing because I know they have truly had a load of fun. I wouldn’t want them to be city kids!
