If you have just found my blog a welcome and I hope you find lots of good stuff. This year is your year to get fit and fabulous and I am here to help you along the way. At the moment I am working on educating you on some healthy changes you can make to your eating habits. Today I want to share some extra little super hero’s I want you to go out and find to include in your daily life. All can be found in your local supermarket or at a health food store. All are tired and tested by myself and I have them every day and recommend you do too.
Protein Powder. What I want you to have protein powder? Yes, why because I am 90% sure you don’t eat enough protein in your diet. But protein powder will make me bulk up, rubbish. Protein won’t make you huge, cupcakes will….. yeah I said that. Protein is awesome as it works to keep you feeling fuller for longer, can be used as a shake for when you are hungry and can’t grab a good meal, makes your hair and nails stronger, and releases energy slowly so it lasts all day. Where to buy it? Anywhere that sells it, do some research online, ask at your health food store. I recommend Pea Protein as it’s made from a natural yellow split pea. What’s great about this one is you can use it while pregnant or breastfeeding. Protein is the building blocks to all your cells and tissues you need it and you can’t get it from cup cakes so go grab some today. You can of course get protein from natural sources such as eggs and chicken but this way is a little bit of insurance that you really are getting what you need.
How to use it: Buy vanilla sprinkle it in your porridge, have a protein shake at 11am and after dinner. Put it in any smoothies you make.
Chia Seeds. Never heard of them right? They are little seeds that get stuck in your teeth but pack a powerful punch of omega 3 which your body can not make you must consume it. Chia seeds have 8 times more omega 3 than salmon. 4 x higher in antioxidants than blueberries, 5 x more calcium than milk, 7 x more vit C than oranges. Are you picking up what I’m saying here. Go buy some.
How to use it: I sprinkle it on my oats every morning or have it in smoothies. You can also have it on salads, soups, add to muffin mix.
Cinnamon: Poor old cinnamon got a bit of a bad rep when it started hanging out with sugar all over doughnuts. Cinnamon is a fantastic spice that stabilises your blood sugar levels. 1 teaspoon of this stuff contains 28mgs of calcium, it even has vit C, K and magnesium.
How to use it: I have a teaspoon on my oats each morning and in smoothies.
LSA. Linseeds, sunflower seeds and almond meal is another great addition to your diet. I have it on my porridge it gives it a real nutty yummy flavour. It’s full of fibre, magnesium, omega 3, vit E, D, B1, B2, B5, calcium etc etc just grab some it’s like $3.
How to use it: Again another addition to my morning porridge or any smoothie, also to salads, muffin mix anything really.
Maca Powder. Instead of coffee this little superfood will give you super powers. Never heard of this one have you? It’s a root like a turnip or radish that is grown in Peru at a very high altitude. Loads of nutrients I won’t list them all but the thing I like is it is great for endurance and stamina so it’s great for stress management. It’s helpful for anaemia, chronic fatigue, depression, lack of libido, menopausal symptoms and so much more. Look this one up as you need to understand it better.
How to use it: I have it on my porridge or in smoothies.
I have these little extras everyday for that little bit of insurance you really are getting everything your body needs. They are all tried and tested by myself and I highly recommend all of them to you. Do some of your own reading up on them. All can be found in most supermarkets or a health food store. If you think the outlay for a container of protein powder or maca is too much, think of it as it works out to be about 50 cents a serve and you’re worth it. I really want you to take your nutrition seriously this year so you can see the results.
I have included pictures of the ones I am using, but there are plenty of options out there. This is by no means a paid post or advert this is me showing you what works for me.
