I never was blessed with great skin, it’s always bothered me, upset me and made quite self conscious at times. As a kids I had freckles, as a teen I had zits and now as a 30 something I am moving in to the sun spots phase yey me! Somehow I stumbled across this idea for a face mask made from pantry items that promised to clear up spots, fade sun spots and pimple scars, exfoliate, cleanse, tighten pores it just seemed to good not to try. So I dug out the bi-carb soda, bought a lemon and found some Teetree Oil and had a go at it. I have to admit I was a bit scared as it sounded a bit nasty like it could burn my entire face off and maybe a new one would grow, but not the case it is amazing!!!
So here it is ladies: Backing Soda, Lemon and Tee Tree Oil Mask
2 x Tbsp Bicarb Soda
1/2 Lemon Squeezed
2 x Drops of Teetree Oil
Mix it until it’s a consistency you like and plop it on your face. You could add water to lesson the active ingredients if you have very sensitive skin, which I do, but my face loved it. I put it on only for about 3 minutes the first time as I was that worried about my sensitive skin, but it was fine. The second time a week later (I like to do these things on Sunday nights) I left it on for 10 minutes. It kind of dries hard and when you wash it off you can feel the crunchy bicarb soda exfoliating your skin. Wash it off with cool water, pat dry and feel your new face OMG! It is as good as new, if you have some pimples the Tea Tree Oil will sort them out, if you have pimple scars or sun spots the lemon juice will sort them out, the bicarb is very cleansing so it will remove dead skin cells and all the other crap that accumulates on your face.
So there you go, a day spa in your bathroom that didn’t cost you a cent. Try it and let me know how you went! Now get off the net, get to the pantry and then the bathroom and try this awesome home made chemical and preservative free face mask.

Thanks a lot for the helpful article. I tried baking powder instead I just doubled the amount but I couldn’t leave it in for more than 2 minutes
My face was burning so I was worried and had to wash it off right away with cool water. Should I leave it on for more than 5 mins and is it as good idea to use this mask everyday? ?
Nora, When I first did it it stung also and I was worried and washed it off too. I leave it on until it is too stingy, then wash it off as I have sensitive skin that goes red. But looks amazing the next day. It’s the acid in the lemon working its magic. Probably every couple of days is good and if it burns use less lemon or just wash it off. Did it make your skin feel/look better the next day? R
Yes it’s great
Trying 1st time will let u know how it turns out next week
Avoid using baking POWDER on your face! It has an different chemical composition from baking SODA (pure sodium bicarbonate). They are both leavening agents and sometimes can be used interchangeably in baking, but they should not be when used for skin. Baking powder is sodium bicarbonate plus an acidifying agent, so the combination of an additional acid (the lemon juice) and doubling the recipe is why your skin burned. You had about quadruple the acid amount the original recipe had on your face. Had you left it on any longer, you might have received a chemical burn.
People should stick to recipes if they haven’t tried DIY skincare recipes before! It’s better to wait to find the proper ingredients than to accidentally injure yourself!
I tried this and it was amazing. At first I was scared because it was very tingling, but I’m amazed on the results after I washed it off. omg!! My face felt so clean & refreshed.
Thank you for posting this recipe!

Hi, I was wondering if the teetree oil was a must? Do you think using baking soda and lemon juice would have the same affect?
I did not use tea tree oil and it worked great! Tea Tree oil kind of irritates my skin so I don’t use it.
I may not be a lady, or a mom, but this is a great find! I am trying this tonight, as well as some diluted Apple Cider Vinegar as a moisturizer. I’m crossing my fingers. Being 31, and a guy, with acne… not for me. 🙂
Thanks for this great information!
I did try this and left my skin feeling really refreshed and soft, I would just like to know how many time a week should I ne applying this to my skin? Thanks.
