ALMOND MILK OR COWS MILK?

As Almond milk becomes a common sight in the shops and is fast becoming a  popular cows milk substitute I get lots of questions asking which is healthier. Almond milk is made by mixing finely ground almonds with water. Almond milk has a very high nutritional value and, unlike cow’s milk, is safe for those who are lactose intolerant or have gluten and casein allergies.almond

Why I Am Loving Almond Milk?

Almond milk is one of the most nutritionally valuable milk substitutes available today. It is high in vitamins and minerals, including vitamin E, manganese, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, selenium, iron, fiber, zinc and calcium. Almond milk is low in calories, low in fat and is lactose, gluten, casein and cholesterol free; it’s also free of saturated fats.

But What About Cows Milk?

Whole cow’s milk is a very nutritious food. It’s high in protein, with eight grams per serving. However, whole milk is high in fat, with eight grams per serving, and saturated fat, with five grams per serving. Milk also contains 24 mg of cholesterol per serving, and contains 146 calories per serving.

My Opinion:

Almond milk for healthy weight management and general nutrition I believe is your best option. The nutritional value you can add by having almond milk in your oats or smoothies each day is a great way to up your intake of vitamins and minerals naturally. For the kids they are fine to drink cows milk as they need all that extra energy, so cows milk is still a great option for them.

If you haven’t already tried almond milk, try some today for a nutritional booster.
