Here is a sneaky way to make something that was going to be a junk food into a nutritious after workout treat. If you are going to eat something on the naughty list then the best time to do it is right after a workout when you are still in the after burn. Where your body is recovering and still burning large amounts of calories. This little brown bite of heaven is also great to have on hand for when you feel like something sweet and would normaly go for chocolate, coke or lollies.
The idea is a simple cheap brownie mix packet from the shops, add the eggs it suggests and swap the butter for coconut oil. I then add a whole heap of nutrients to the bowl mix it up, cook for the recommended time then enjoy a brownie after my workout.
Here are some ideas to add to your packet brownie mix:
LSA
Chia Seeds
Cinnamon
Almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, or almond/hazelnut meal if you don’t like nuts
Protein powder
Maca powder
Natural peanut/almond butter
Blueberries, banana, strawberries, raspberries, gogi berries
You name it you can pretty much add it, if it’s healthy it is making the brownies more healthy. Chances are you would have eaten something naughty anyway. By doing this you are prepared for your temptation with something you now know has some nutritional benefit.
What I then do is cut them up, individually wrap and freeze them. So before I workout I grab one out the freezer by the time I’m done it’s thawed out and good to go. Also a better swap for the 3pm crash and crave when you are wanting something yummy and resort to a packet of tiny teddies and a cup of tea. Swap that for a custom built brownie and a protein shake. Being healthy is not about deprivation, you should not be starving yourself nor depriving yourself of yummy things, just modify them.
