Not sure how it started but I know that I have always liked running. I’ve been doing a bit of running over the years and have found a few things that work for me so I thought I would share them on the blog today. If you are ready to lose the last 5 kilos then running is for you!
It’s time to remove the words ‘I can’t’ and ‘never’ from your sentences with the word ‘run’ in them, because you can and I will tell you how. There is no such thing as a ‘runner’ or a ‘non runner’ all humans can run, we were in fact built to run. Yet we are inherently lazy creatures and would rather sit down. If you are a Mum and long for 30 minutes to yourself then going for a run is what you should do.
Music – You Must Get An iPod
Load it up with your favourite fast paced songs to keep you motivated, make a 30 minute play list and don’t go home until the music stops. If I don’t have my music to distract me I get bored and thoughts such as ‘eww dog pooh, or that fly wont nick off, or oiy my lungs hurt, or sh*t I need to get back to change the washing over’ etc. Music is performance enhancing and makes a huge difference.
You Will Need – Running Shoes
Get yourself some good running shoes. There are some crazy colours getting around, go get yourself some. There are also lots of reasonably priced shoes these days so don’t feel like you are up for 100s of dollars unless you are really going to run long distances.
Good Form – Breathing
This just takes practice but it may also be what stops you. When you run you will quickly become out of breath however this may be a feeling you are not used to and may feel you need to stop. You don’t, it’s just your heart working hard to keep up with you for you. Just breath and lean to enjoy the feeling of the extra oxygen in your blood!
Motivation – Fun Runs
Find an up and coming Fun Run being held in your area and register. Be it a 2km walk or a 5km run it is an awesome goal to have and once you sign up for it it’s a commitment.
Just Start Running
Start slow and with short runs so you don’t get injured or all sore and quit. Instead of buying a gossip magazine next time you do the food shopping grab a running mag and you will get all sorts of great tips and ideas. Once you start running you will get it.
If you have done a Fun Run I’d love you to leave a comment on how it went for others to be inspired too.

Can i ask how many days a week you run?
renee01 says
Hey Leanne, I would normally run on the weekends when my husband is home with the kids. Then mid week I run a bit on a treadmill at the gym when waiting for my Body Pump class to start. Are you thinking about starting? If I have a fun run coming up I run more in the lead up. R
