Did you know some foods have a very high thermogenic effect, so you literally scorch calories as you chew. Other foods contain nutrients and compounds that stoke your metabolic fire so by adding them to your diet you can burn calories while you read my blog. That’s pretty cool.
1. DRINK GREEN TEA
Drinking up to 4 cups of green tea a day will give you loads of EGCG, a compound in the tea that temporarily speeds metabolism after sipping it. Try making green tea in the morning, then letting it come to room temperature, add lemon or limes and refrigerate.
2. PROTIEN
Protein has a high thermogenic effect: You burn about 30% of the calories the food contains during digestion (so a 300-calorie chicken breast requires about 90 calories to break it down).
3. DAIRY PRODUCTS
Rich in calcium and vitamin D, these help preserve and build muscle mass—essential for maintaining a robust metabolism. Grab the low fat versions to eliminate 4kgs of fat in your diet a year.
4. WHOLE GRAINS
Your body burns twice as many calories breaking down whole foods (especially those rich in fiber such as oatmeal and brown rice) than processed foods. So start your day with oats and make the swap from white to brown bread, rice and pasta today.
5. LENTILS
One cup equals 35% of your daily iron needs and since up to 20% of us are iron- deficient this is a cheap way to fix that. When you lack a nutrients, your metabolism slows because the body’s not getting what it needs to work efficiently.
So by adding these 5 little cuties to your diet you can burn calories while you sleep, that is multi tasking at it’s best if you ask me. Remember abs are made in the kitchen.
