How can it be School holidays again? It feels like it just was School holidays but one day I know I will be 50 and I will look back at these days and think to myself, oh those were the best years of my life! There are upsides to School holidays, an extra hour in bed, that’s all I can think of! So I wanted to share my ideas for keeping the kids sane these School holidays to help you avoid eating your young.
10 School Holidays Survival Tips:
1. Visit Parks/Playgrounds In Your Local Area. Benefits it’s totally free, kids get to burn off some energy, you could even run around with them and get active too. Pack a picnic and make an afternoon of it.
2. Go To The Movies. This will probably be a one off as it costs a fortune if you have more than one child. Check on the net for babes in arms sessions if you have a little nugget. Why not on a Friday or Saturday night, PJs on, grab their blankets, and head to the Drive In, $20 for a car, that’s family friendly.
3. Do Some Baking. Get the kids in the kitchen and make some cakes, biscuits, cupcakes anything. Kids love to help out and its a great way to get them involved in the kitchen.
4. Hire DVDs. This is best done on the Monday as you can get 5 weekly’s for say $10 and it keeps them entertained for a few days.
5. Visit Museums. There are plenty of museums around that the kids will love, we often go to the Car Museum, this week we are planning a trip to the Maritime Museum. They will often have exhibitions especially for School holidays.
6. Indoor Playcafes. These are great in winter, they can be expensive but you can really stay for most of the day so that’s how you get your moneys worth.
7. Wash The Cars. If it’s sunny get the kids out the front and wash the cars it’s great fun when you are a kid. Even better pack them up in the car and go through the car wash it’s like the whole car is under the ocean, that’s what we pretend!
8. Online Games. For the older kids if you Google free online games heaps of games come up, some even educational. Mr 8 will spend ages playing games he has found.
9. Go To The Beach. Yep even in winter, rug up, take a bucket and walk along the beach, collect shells and rocks, play in the puddles on the rocks in gum boots. Oh I wish I was 4 again.
10. See The Family. During the week it can be hard to catch up with the cousins or grandparents. Next thing a week turns in to a month, use the holidays to catch up with the family, arrange a play date with the cousins, or a trip to Nannas.
So there are 10 things this little family will be doing over the next two weeks. Make a plan, print out a calendar from your email sit down with the kids and pencil some ideas in that way you are more likely to stick to it. Arrange the things that cost money around pay day and the free things towards the end of the fortnight. Make the most of your time with the little peeps, soon they will be bigger and wont want to come out of their room!
